Anas b. Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet said,

"Seek knowledge, even as far away as China. The acquisition of knowledge is compulsory for every Muslim. ”

The words of Allah’s Messenger ﷺ echoed throughout history and kindled a burning desire for Muslims to reach unprecedented heights. This Prophetic directive gave birth to many great discoveries which mankind benefits from till today, such as the analytical Hadith sciences to the invention of the astrolabe. And the golden tradition of seeking knowledge still lives today. Those who we see as scholars today were once students themselves who endured years of arduous studying and learning.

Living in a society engulfed in ills, it is essential that generations of scholars are being continuously produced to tackle the plethora of issues out there. From the spread of atheism and unbelief to the widespread dissemination of ignorance and transgressions, the vanguard must be trained and subsequently summoned to neutralise these potential threats to our faith. This can only be achieved by fostering environments and cultures of education and learning.

Strengthening Your Application: A Focus on Impact & Legacy

At Supporting Sunni Scholars, we view every grant as a sacred trust, an investment from the Ummah intended to generate the greatest possible benefit for generations to come. Our selection process is therefore guided by a motivation to benefit the Ummah.

We are dedicated to projects and individuals who don't just participate in the tradition, but actively elevate and preserve it. To help you align your application with our mission, please consider the following priorities.

For Scholar, Student & Teaching Support

We support the inheritors of the Prophets (warathat al-anbiya). Our funding for individuals is therefore assessed based on their demonstrated and potential contribution to the spiritual and intellectual health of their communities.

In your application, we encourage you to articulate your vision clearly.

  • For Scholars: How are you actively disseminating knowledge? We look for applicants who are engaged in teaching, authoring new works, providing community guidance, and mentoring the next generation.
  • For Students: How will completing your studies in the Dars-i-Nizami or another recognised program equip you to serve your community? Do you plan to teach, write, or lead?

Your application is strongest when it paints a clear picture of how your work will build a tangible, positive legacy and empower the Ummah with authentic, reliable knowledge. We look forward to seeing your vision.

For Research & Publication Grants

Our primary goal is to fill critical gaps in the library of Islamic knowledge available to the global Ummah. We therefore give the highest priority to projects that represent a monumental contribution and a lasting legacy (Sadaqa Jariyah). These include:

  • Ground-breaking Original Research: Research that tackle complex, contemporary issues through the lens of our rich scholarly tradition.
  • Critical Editions & First-Time Translations: Bringing seminal classical works, previously inaccessible to a wider audience, to light. This could be a first-ever English translation of a key fiqh text or the critical edition of a neglected manuscript.
  • Works of High Scholarly Value: Projects that will become essential references for students and scholars for years to come.

While all forms of knowledge are valuable, proposals for works with a more limited scholarly scope, such as poetry compilations or translations of less central texts, are given lower priority. Our resources are strategically focused on reviving foundational and urgently needed scholarship.
