|This Prophetic narration instilled a notion of zeal and passion to teach and transmit the teaching of the Prophet ﷺ. This golden tradition of Isnad links, to date, each generation of scholarship extending back to the Prophet ﷺ himself. This practice of instruction and tutelage produced some of the greatest minds mankind has witnessed, leading to a legacy of knowledge that is unparalleled.
Today, from East to West, scholars hold their humble circles of learning where the plethora of Islamic sciences are taught. From Nahw to Sarf, Fiqh to Aqida, Hadith to Tafsir, all the keys to understanding the Word of Allah are readily available in institutions of Islam. By having such opportunities, we Muslims gain access to the correct understanding of our faith and thus implement the Way of the Pious.
Teaching involves the various aspects of dissemination of knowledge to a gathering of people. This includes and is not restricted to; class-room style teaching, workshop days on particular topics e.g. Mirath (Islamic inheritance) and lectures on contemporary issues. Alternative forms of teaching may also be utilised, such as high-quality video recordings on e.g., teaching a book of Hadith.
To qualify as a teacher for the purpose of Supporting Sunni Scholars’ scope of work, the teacher must demonstrate evidence of ijazat al-tadris – a license to teach. This may be fulfilled by a collection of licences (i.e., ijazat) transmitted from qualified and competent scholars.
Do you have a project or initiative that could benefit from funding support to improve the quality of teaching? If so, I would like to encourage you to consider applying for funding.
Supporting Sunni Scholars recognises that teaching is a key service to disseminate and advance Sunni Islam among the general public. To enable this service, support must be provided to the qualified teachers and scholars who have the knowledge to educate their congregation.
By donating to Supporting Sunni Scholars, we aim to financially aid the inception of weekly classes, short courses, year-programmes, lectures, one-day seminars and workshops. Teachers can utilise this funding to cover the cost of venue hire, printing of course material and advertising of their activity.
Primarily, we aim to provide grants to teachers covering the cost of:
